Jajang, or chunjang, is a Korean bean paste made from fermenting black soybeans in salt, wheat flour, and caramel. It has a unique and delicious taste! It is slightly sweet, extremely savory, and has a rich deepness that will enhance any of your asian dishes. It is commonly used in Korea as a sauce over noodles, rice, rice cakes, or stir fries. To prepare this sauce, toasting the paste on a pan with some oil is very important this removes some of the intensity and bitterness of the paste and releases the sweet and savory flavors. Then, add to a mixture of sauteed onions, garlic, and protein of choice and mix well until evenly coated. Add water or broth until sauce is smooth and bring to a simmer.
